Homes across South Lanarkshire were hit by a power cut on Thursday evening.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

A broken transformer box which cut power to around 700 homes on Thursday was damaged by a bull with an \u201citchy bum\u201d, according to a local farmer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hazel Laughton, from Chapelton in South Lanarkshire said the electricity outage was caused by \u201cRon\u201d, a four-year old Limousin bull on her farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 35-year-old, who runs the beef and sheep farm with her husband, Greg, said she first noticed that the electricity went off at around 11pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Engineers managed to restore power at around 4am the following morning, and the pair realised what had caused the problem when they went to feed the cows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGreg noticed the transformer had been knocked off,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe have seen the bull scratch himself on the pole before, so we knew what had happened.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thankfully Ron wasn\u2019t hurt in the accident, and locals have taken the news with good humour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey all found it funny,\u201d said Hazel, who posted about the incident in a local Facebook group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur bull Ron would like to apologise to everyone in Chapelton and Strathaven for causing last night\u2019s power cut,\u201d Hazel told the group, \u201che had an itchy bum so scratched it on the electricity pole and knocked the transformer box off!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just happy to be alive this morning after somehow escaping 11,000 volts and a large bump on the head!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hazel and Greg have promised to rename their bull \u201cSparky\u201d to commemorate his near miss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
